Online Radon Training Information

In partnership with the national consortium of Regional Radon Training Centers, Kansas State University began offering online Radon Training Courses April 2012.

Kansas Radon Program – In-Person Training Schedule 2015

Courses offered by Kansas State University serve the requirements of the Kansas Radon Certification Act and KDHE, the NE Radon licensing program, and the AARST-NRPP. We launched our online radon measurement and mitigation training in April 2012. Monitor this web page for classroom training opportunities.
 

May 11/12 (Measurement Focused) & 18/19 (Mitigation Focused) 8 hours CE

 

May 11-12  Measurement Focused 4 hour CE

A two hour session each day (8:30-10:30am) for 4 total hours. 

May 11 – Radon Testing in Real Estate Transactions

8:30am-10:30am

  • This session will focus on reviewing the process associated with radon measurements conducted during real estate transactions. Topics will include:
    • Review of real estate measurement protocols
    • Review of acceptable measurement devices
    • Review of device location placement

May 12 – Radon Mitigation System Inspection Issues

8:30am-10:30am

  • This session will focus on how to inspect installed radon mitigation systems in homes
    • A review of the primary standards requirements for Kansas with examples of:
      • Suction pit installations
      • Pipe installations
      • Fan motor and wiring installations
      • Exhaust point installations

May 18-19  Mitigation Focused 4 hour CE

A two hour session each day (1-3pm) for 4 total hours.

May 18 – Mitigation Standards Review

1pm-3pm

This session will provide an over view of current mitigation standards for residential, multi-family and large buildings highlighting key issues and concerns.

May 19 – Mitigation Quality Assurance Plans   

1pm-3pm

This session will review content and format for mitigation quality assurance plans. A mitigation QAP is similar in purpose to measurement quality assurance plans which are required for all measurement certified Kansas technicians.

  • Initial Contact and Building investigations
  • Designed ASD Components
  • Sealing
  • Operation, Maintenance and Monitoring Components
  • Post mitigation functional inspection and retests
  • Quality Control (oversight review and response actions to failed quality)

General Course Information:

  • Courses will be delivered live via Zoom Video Conferencing (www.zoom.us)
    • Course size is limited to twenty (20) students
  • Course materials will be available for download via K-State Pro after registration

  • Any required or suggested reference materials
  • Course participants are asked to be logged in a minimum of 10 minutes prior to beginning the session
  • Course participants will be asked at points to respond to questions during session in chat
  • Course participants must submit their answers to the course review exam via email to radon@ksu.edu after the completion of each four-hour course in order to obtain continuing education credit.  The deadline for submission is the Friday following the end of your course.
    • The exam questions will be presented live during the last 15-20 minutes of the four-hour course.
  • Course participants will be expected to be present for each complete session in order to receive continuing education credit for the course.

Course fees are $99 for each 4 hour course or take all 8 hours for $150

NRPP Multifamily Measurement Advanced Certification Course - 8 hours CE

Multi-Family Measurement – NRPP Advanced Certification Course – 8 hours

NRPP MURC #600

This class will cover conducting testing in multi-family structures. For those who are NRPP measurement certified, this course meets the training requirement for the NRPP Advanced Certification in MF Measurement. The Standard will be provided to all registrants and project examples are the focus of the course. If there are participants who wish to take the Advanced Certificate Exam it would be scheduled for the evening of June 9th.(additional fee of $125)

This course will cover the factors which are fundamental to radon services quality assurance plans and quality control measurements, with discussion of certification and licensing requirements.

This session will provide hands on demonstrations and displays to review mitigation system diagnostic, performance and installation issues.

Getting RRNC Done and Done Right

4 hours CE for KS and NE, 4 hours CE for NRPP #57

Radon resistant new construction (RRNC) is an under-utilized marketing area for both radon measurement and mitigation providers. The course will give attendees an overview of RRNC Building techniques, testing options, troubleshooting and reduction options for RRNC homes at or above the EPA guideline, and marketing strategies. Participants will leave with a greater understanding of RRNC practices and tools with which to approach area builders concerning RRNC home building.

Inspecting the Radon Mitigation System with Home Inspection            

Fee: $50

 

4 hours CE for KS and NE, 4 hours CE for NRPP

This course provides information about properly installed radon mitigation systems, along with an overview of radon, radon entry and behavior, standard radon mitigation methods, available system checklists from national programs and regulatory states, and lots of examples of what, and what not to do!

Online Courses

In partnership with the national consortium of Regional Radon Training Centers, Kansas State University began offering online Radon Training Courses in April 2012. 

 

All courses meet Kansas Certification requirements. The online Radon Measurement Training Course qualifies as an initial radon measurement technician certification course for Kansas certification.  The online Radon Mitigation Course will qualify as an initial radon mitigation technician certification course as long as the required “hands-on” or “field” portion of the mitigation training is also accomplished and the “Mentor Checklist for Field-Based Radon Mitigation Training” is submitted along with certification application.  

 

The courses all qualify as initial courses for AARST-NRPP certification. The mitigation stand-alone course is designed for those who have already taken a measurement course and will not satisfy AARST-NRPP requirements for the Mitigation Certification Exam without taking an additional measurement training course. Online courses offered include the following:

 

Measurement Course Online

  • Self-paced: April 1 - April 30, (start anytime on or after April 1, finish by April 30)
  • Pre-requisite for AARST-NRPP Professional Certification Exam; fulfills requirement for entry level course in measurement. AARST-NRPP Certification Exam must be scheduled separately.

 

Combined Course Online

  • Self-paced: April 1 – June 15 (start anytime April 1 or after, finish by June 15)
  • Pre-requisite for AARST-NRPP Professional Certification Exams; fulfills requirement for entry level courses. Strongly recommended that Measurement Course be take prior to Mitigation Course. For completion, must also register for and complete daylong, hands-on field session; contact us to arrange attending a field session. AARST-NRPP Certification Exam must be scheduled separately.

 

Mitigation Course Online

  • Self-paced: May 1 - June 15 (start anytime May 1 or after, finish by June 15)
  • Pre-requisite for AARST-NRPP Professional Certification Exam; fulfills requirement for entry level course in mitigation. For completion, must also register for and complete daylong, hands-on field session; contact us to arrange attending a field session.
